Is a Disney Cruise fun for adults too?
I know when I say “Disney Cruise” people immediately think of a ship run by Mickey Mouse with small children running everywhere. But did you know that Disney has mastered an experience at sea that’s equally magical for adults? I know it’s hard to believe, and I’ve had friends that doubted me – but once they tried it, they understood and had the best time.
Now is Disney Cruise Line a fun line to cruise without kids? Yes – it can be fantastic regardless, but the caveat here is that I think you should be a bit of a Disney fan to enjoy an adult only sailing on Disney Cruise ships.
Imagine you’re planning a family getaway and you’re thinking “I know my kids would love a Disney vacation, but I want to enjoy the vacation too!”. In this post I’m sharing why it’s the best cruise line for adults to enjoy as well as the kids! Once your kids are enjoying the age appropriate club for them on board, what’s for you to do? PLENTY!
Adults-Only Spaces
Each of the Disney ships in the fleet offer similar spaces with slight variations. From the Quiet Cove Pool found on all ships to the unique Satellite Falls on the Disney Dream and Fantasy, there’s no shortage of places to unwind.
Cove Cafe is a wonderful spot for your caffeine fix during the day with specialty coffees and teas. In the evening they offer cocktails and wine, it’s a great place to relax and enjoy your drink of choice.
Don’t miss Serenity Bay, the adult beach on Disney’s private island Castaway Cay. Disney Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point also has an exclusive adult only beach.
If you want to really indulge and unwind, I can recommend renting a cabana for the day!
Gourmet Dining Experiences
While family-friendly restaurants are part of your rotational dining, Disney Cruises also have some adult only dining experiences. Palo offers upscale Italian cuisine with breathtaking ocean views, while Remy provides French-inspired fine dining for a memorable date night. Keep an eye out for adult-exclusive brunches and special dining events throughout your cruise. I always seem to find myself booking a Palo brunch, the food is SO good and the desserts are amazing!
Nightlife and Entertainment
As night falls, Disney Cruises offer a full entertainment district filled with themed venues. Enjoy live music ranging from jazz ensembles to cover bands and DJs.
If you want to know what it’s like for performers who work on a Disney Cruise listen to my podcast where I interviewed Sonia and Paul from Soul Duo about life at sea and being live entertainment crew members on Disney Cruise Line ships.
Adult-exclusive comedy shows offer more mature humor, while themed parties like “Silent Disco” nights keep the fun going. “Match Your Mate” is one of the game shows I love to see on board where they ask couples questions about their spouse while they are out of the room and they have to guess what the other said. This is the most hilarious show, it’s always a great time.
I have sailed on a lot of cruises as a Disney adult, and I feel like I still haven’t experienced all there is to do!
My favorite spot to unwind at night on the Disney Dream and Disney Fantasy is the Skyline Lounge. It is so relaxing with panoramic views of city skylines that magically transform as you watch.
On the Disney Wish they have adapted this idea to give us Star Wars: Hyperspace Lounge where the panoramic views are out of this world!
There are also expert-led beverage tastings and mixology classes offered on board for an additional cost. Wine tasting, beer, champagne, bourbon – there are many different options for you to try. I discovered my favourite drink, Rosa Regale on a champagne tasting on board.
Fitness and Wellness
If you wanted to stay active at sea it is easy to do with the state-of-the-art fitness center and adult-only exercise classes. I wish I could give you a review, but I’ve only ever toured these spaces (who exercises on vacation??).
I have walked the jogging track though, just trying to work off dinner and dessert.
Senses Spa & Salon is a must try for adults. They have a variety of spa treatments to choose from that includes massages, facials, peels and wraps. Fun fact – my very first acupuncture treatment was YEARS ago on the Disney Magic. I had hurt my back before my cruise and could barely walk. I went in to the spa and she offered to try acupuncture for me, it worked like a charm and I went on to walk the parks for a whole week after the cruise pain free!
The rainforest-themed aromatherapy steam rooms are a particular highlight you won’t want to miss. They also have salon and barber services, manicures, teeth whitening – the list goes on!
Adult-Focused Port Adventures
From wine tastings in picturesque vineyards to cooking classes featuring local cuisines, there’s something for every interest. History buffs can explore ancient ruins, while adventure seekers can try snorkeling or scuba diving. The port adventures are dependent on your itinerary but there are plenty of activities for you to enjoy.
The Disney Difference
Disney’s legendary attention to detail ensures adults feel just as pampered as younger guests. Impeccable stateroom service, friendly staff, and seamless organization of activities and excursions make for a truly magical experience.
Disney Cruises offer the perfect blend of relaxation, adventure, and entertainment for adults and kids.
If you want to try the water slides? Go ahead! If you want to meet the Disney characters – you should! The adult activities are there for you to enjoy, but that doesn’t mean you should enjoy everything that a Disney Cruise Line vacation has to offer. From enjoying an afternoon film in the movie theater to getting some ice cream right before dinner, the best part of the cruise is you can be an adult AND a kid if you want!
