Disney’s Grand Floridian Room Review: The Standard Guest Rooms
I have stayed at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa multiple times through hosted travel agency events, cash bookings, and using my Disney Vacation Club points. I’ve stayed in a variety of locations throughout the resort, and I can tell you with full confidence: the standard guest rooms don’t get nearly enough love.
I have not stayed in the main building yet, that’s on my to-do list, but this review is of a standard guest room at Disney’s flagship resort.

My Room 5223: Sago Cay, Building 5
On my most recent stay I was in a standard room in Building 5, known as Sago Cay in room 5223. I was on the second floor in a resort view room, so I was looking out at the boat docks and the neighbouring building rather than the Magic Kingdom. And honestly? I had zero complaints.

My balcony was lovely, I was a short walk to the quick-service location, and just outside that quick service is one of the best spots on property to watch the fireworks with Cinderella Castle right there in view. It’s also the first building you reach if you walk back from Magic Kingdom instead of taking the monorail, which I did a couple of times.
There are rooms with views of the Magic Kingdom at this resort and they come with the comparable price tag as well.
Walking In: The Entryway & Desk
These rooms are grand in every sense of the word. They genuinely feel like a luxury stay. The colours, the details, the space, it would be very comfortable for a family.

Walking in, it almost feels like a little foyer, and right there is a desk. You could use this as a makeup vanity, but on this trip I was working so it was exactly what I needed! I set up my laptop, second screen, keyboard, mouse, charging cables, the works. There was plenty of room for all, with a plug right on the wall beside it. The chair was comfortable, the complimentary Wi-Fi held up perfectly for video calls, and I genuinely had no issues being productive here.
The Bathroom
The bathroom is gorgeous, and I love that it’s split into two separate areas.
The vanity has double sinks with loads of counter space for all your toiletries and the lighting around that mirror is stunning. Bright, even, flattering. Really well done.

The toilet and shower are separated from the vanity, which makes such a difference when you’re sharing the room with family or friends.

The Drink Station & Fridge
Just outside the bathroom is the drink station. You’ve got a Keurig with tea and coffee options, paper cups, actual real mugs and glasses, an ice bucket, and a beverage cooler – it’s essentially a small fridge. Great for keeping my milk and water cold. I always order a case of water delivered to whatever resort I’m staying at, if you want to know how I do that, I’ve got a whole article on Vacation Grocery Delivery.

One note: if you’re storing medication in the cooler, make sure to check that the temperature is appropriate for what you need.
The Beds
Two queen beds on a gorgeous large area rug, and they are incredibly comfortable. Lots of pillows, soft bedding, and (this is one of my favourite practical details), the beds are raised high enough that you can slide your luggage underneath them. Such a simple thing, but it makes the room feel so much less cluttered.

My room slept five people total, because the pull-out sofa (more on that in a moment) turns into a bed as well.
Closets & Storage
The closets are fabulous. Inside you’ll find robes, a laundry bag, extra bedding, a luggage rack, and the safe. There is so much hanging space in here that is genuinely impressive for a hotel room. And there’s a dresser for folded items too, so you can really unpack and settle in.
TV, Sofa & the Rest of the Room
The flat-screen TV is mounted on the wall above the dresser. Beside that is the pull-out sofa, which is what accounts for that fifth sleeping spot. It rounds out the room nicely and gives you a proper little living area with a little table if you needed it while sitting on the sofa.

If I had ONE complaint about these rooms, it’s that the sofa faces the beds and not the TV. If you want to watch TV you would do it from your bed. It didn’t present a problem for me, but if you have little ones and the TV is going to be on while you’re in the room, just keep that in mind.
The Mary Poppins Details – Look Closely!
This is the part I think is so easy to overlook and it is delightful.
These rooms are full of Mary Poppins touches to name a few:
- The wallpaper behind the coffee maker
- An umbrella in the lampshade
- The chandelier — the glass bulbs are shaped like birds, with one penguin hiding among them

I cannot believe I didn’t get a close-up photo of that chandelier. No matter how many times I photograph my room when I arrive, I always forget something! I’ll get it next time, but do yourself a favour and look up when you get to your room.
And extra touches? Yes – this resort is full of them.
